Ambassadorial Scholar-Elect Training Seminar
Quotes from ASETS' Scholars about their
Rotary Scholarship experience
I wanted to extend a huge thank you for your amazing efforts
for the last weekend. I had no idea what to expect of ASETS
and it truly blew me away. Left me motivated, inspired and so
grateful for what Rotary contributes to this world.

I have seen,
done and experienced so much; it is as if I have lived half a lifetime
in just a matter of months. But I think what is truly amazing is how
much there is to be learned about oneself. I have found a sense of
self-reliance and inner-strength that I was
previously unaware of. NR

Two events which I
especially enjoyed were two community service activities involving local
children. The first was a “play day” organized by my MBA program with
an underprivileged local school. I was able to share a short
presentation about Texas and explained to the kids how an Asian person
could be born and raised in America. I had loads of fun playing with
the kids and showing them around the university. CC – Hong Kong 06-07
I believe that the
greatest treasure this scholarship gave me was making me understand,
learn and experience what world understanding, peace and Rotary really
mean. This experience helped me incorporate what volunteering means in
an international perspective, understand the role our family, friends,
country, culture and values make us. This is what will always guide us.
We understand that no
matter how little we give it can be a lot for someone, but living an
experience like this has no price and there are not enough words to
express what it really means. It changed something inside me forever.
The cultural shock is
good, it makes you grow. Everything will happen for a reason that will
make a difference in your life.

I flew into Veracruz,
expecting to have to catch a taxi to some hotel to stay overnight and
then catch a bus to Xatapa the next day. But, behold, my host Rotary
counselor in Xatapa sent one of her students to pick me up and help me
get settled in a hotel. He showed me around and told me how to change my
money the next morning. That first encounter with this young Mexican was
to be the first of several positive experiences I would have during my
first days in Mexico. PP – Mexico 03-04 |
